This Chicago Reader blog post gives a good overview of how the C&D recycling process works with new mechanical separation technology, with an inside look at Allied Waste's facility on Cermak Road. We always like to see things reused before recycled, of course, but this is a great resource for the city. I've toured the plant myself, and I can say its very impressive.
